Late Payment Surcharge (LPS) on your electricity bill
In short. A percentage added to the payable amount once the due date has passed — the difference between "Amount Payable" and "Amount After Due Date" on the bill.
Where to find it on your bill
Printed as the second, higher total next to the due date, not usually broken out as its own line.
LPS is calculated automatically by the billing system and applied uniformly once the due date passes — it isn't something a subdivision office can waive on request, though DISCOs occasionally run late-fee amnesty windows during specific government-announced relief periods.
If a payment was attempted before the due date but failed to process (a bank outage or app error, for example) and LPS was still charged, keep the failed-transaction screenshot or timestamp — that's the evidence a DISCO needs to reverse an LPS charge applied in error.
More totals & status fields
- Tariff / Tariff Category — The rate category your connection is billed under — domestic, commercial, industrial, or agricultural — which sets the per-unit price and whether slabs or a flat rate apply.
- Protected Status — A marker showing whether your six-month consumption history qualifies you for lower residential slab rates — recalculated by the DISCO every month.
- Payable Amount — The total due if paid on or before the due date — every charge, tax, surcharge, arrears and adjustment added together, before any late payment surcharge.
