Net Metering Credits on Your Bill
How net-metering results may appear on DISCO bills: import/export registers, net energy, reconciliation concepts, and what to do when the numbers look wrong.

Reading the lines
Your bill may show imported units, exported units, and a net adjustment depending on meter type and billing software. Labels differ by DISCO—some print separate import/export registers, others print a single net figure after internal reconciliation.
If something looks wrong, gather photos of the meter display during a clear day (showing both registers if visible) and contact your DISCO with your reference number and net-metering agreement details.
Bi-directional meters vs simple netting
A true bi-directional (net) meter records import and export separately, then the billing system nets them for the period, often carrying any export surplus forward as a credit against future bills rather than paying cash. Older or misconfigured setups sometimes only track import, which can under-credit genuine exports—another reason to confirm your meter type at commissioning.
Ask your installer or DISCO which register type was installed and how the export credit is expressed on your bill (as adjusted units, a rupee credit line, or a carried-forward balance) so you know what to check each month.
When the numbers do not match your expectations
Common causes of a mismatch include a meter reading error, a change in tariff category, seasonal production swings you did not account for, or a delay in the DISCO's back-office reconciliation after commissioning. Compare at least two to three consecutive bills before assuming a fault—one odd month is often explained by weather or a billing cycle date shift.
If the discrepancy persists, escalate in writing (email or the DISCO's complaint portal) referencing your net-metering agreement number, and keep copies of every bill and meter photo until it is resolved.
